Meridian bridesmaid dress

Meridian dress in linen viscose noil

Pattern: Meridian Dress by Papercut Patterns
Fabric: Deep teal viscose linen noil from fabrics.com

My best friend of 17 years, Megan, asked me to be a bridesmaid for her wedding in March. She let me make my own dress which made me really happy! It took me about a month from start to finish working in the evenings and on weekends. I’ve sewn with viscose linen noil before so I knew it would look sophisticated and still be comfortable. It’s a soft fabric that has a nice weight and drape. I’ve used this pattern before to make a crushed velvet dress for my work holiday party, so I knew what to expect construction wise. It’s straightforward and doable for beginners.

Some adjustments I made before cutting out fabric:

  • Added 1.75” to waist

  • Added .5” to hip, eliminated hip curve

  • 1.5” full bicep adjustment

  • Lengthened skirt by 13” to make it maxi length

  • French seamed all visible seams

I make a lot of mistakes in my sewing practice. For instance, after taking the time to make those adjustments, I ended up having to take in almost 4” from waist to hem on the side seams, and had to hem the dress about 4” shorter. 🤦🏼‍♀️I suppose it doesn’t matter at all, because I felt like a rock star wearing a dress that I MADE to my best friends wedding. Also, I need to note, my curls were poppin off that day. Honestly I was shocked. Thanks curly girl method.

Bonus picture of Meg and I dancing because it makes me smile.
